Trimming that makes trees safer and stronger — not topped
Good pruning takes weight off the ends of the limbs, clears the house and wires, and keeps a tree strong for the next storm. Bad pruning — topping, lion-tailing, over-thinning — does the opposite. We do it the arborist's way.
Most trimming calls in Port St. Lucie are about safety and clearance: a live oak whose limbs are on the roof, a canopy that needs lifting off the driveway, deadwood over the pool cage, or an oak that's grown heavy and one-sided and needs weight taken off the ends before a storm finds it. Done right, pruning removes the dead, crossing and over-extended limbs and leaves a balanced canopy the tree can defend. Done wrong — topped back to stubs, or stripped to a tuft on the end of each branch — it triggers weak regrowth and sets the tree up to fail.
We prune to ANSI A300 standards, cut back to the branch collar so the tree can seal the wound, and never top a shade tree. Our arborist tells you what the tree actually needs, which is sometimes less than you think and occasionally more.

Questions we get about tree trimming
How much does tree trimming cost in Port St. Lucie?
Anywhere from $150 for a small tree to about $2,000 for a large live oak that needs a full prune, deadwood and clearance. The size of the tree, how much comes out, and access for the bucket truck set the price. You get it in writing before we start.
How often should I trim my oaks?
A mature live oak usually wants a prune every three to five years — sooner if it's dropping deadwood over the pool cage or crowding the roof. The point is to stay ahead of the big storm-season limbs, not to prune on a calendar for its own sake.
Do you top trees?
No. Topping a shade tree — cutting the canopy back to stubs — is the fastest way to ruin it: it forces weak, dense regrowth that breaks in the next storm and shortens the tree's life. We reduce and thin properly instead, and we'll explain the difference on site.
Can you trim limbs off my roof and the power line?
We clear limbs off your roof, your house-side service drop and your gutters. The primary power line at the street belongs to FPL; if that's where the problem is, we'll tell you exactly who to call.
Is it better to trim before hurricane season?
Yes — thinning end-weight and removing deadwood before June gives the wind less to grab and less to throw. It's the single most useful thing you can do for a big oak near the house. See our storm-prep page.
